Carole-Marie is a multi-media and award-winning local Gulf Coast Artist from the Ocean Springs area. She is primarily known for her bold colorful expressive paintings and she easily stands out in a crowd with her Indian-style braids, purple hair, and a big smile.
She paints her way onto the roads of yester-year with her unique classic CRUZE-style. CRUZE is the term that Carole Marie coined resulting in four separate bodies of artwork focusing on antique cars. What started out in 2012, as an experiment in contour drawings on handmade paper, rekindled her passion for classic cars. Carole Marie sees the fascinating lines creating a detailed form or structure of the car often mirroring a symbolic personality, depictive of the vehicle’s owner. As she photographs those special automobile personalities, she often collects amusing narratives by the car owners, thereby adding life to her artistic renditions. Each vehicle comes alive within the nuance stroke of her hand reflecting the owner’s treasured memories.
Carole Marie’s artwork has appeared in numerous juried art shows and exhibitions in fine art galleries, universities, and museums from the Gold Coast of California to the Historic Neighborhood of Georgetown, Washington DC. In addition, her work in held in numerous private collections both locally and abroad. She was invited to participate in the International Art Gallery, Florence, Italy, in 2009 and 2011. Carole Marie’s paintings can be found locally at the Art House, Ocean Springs, and Gallery 782, Biloxi. The combination of different inks, paints and textures of paper provide me with a vehicle to explore the functionality, and somewhat whimsical view of the automobile. In essence, drawings are but memories of our life’s story, a story that continually unfolds each and every day.
