About Charles Chapin - Almost Downtown Art Gallery

I have been inspired all of my ife by something that was written by the painter Wang Wei (415-443) and quoted in Shio Sakanishi, “The Spirit of the Brush”. He said … “human eyes are limited in their scope, hence they are not able to perceive all that is to be seen; yet with one small brush I can draw the universe”. I have been drawing and painting all of my life. I paint in acrylic and oil and I do renderings in pencil and charcoal. I paint any and everything and am always challenging myself to do better. I am now one of the Delta’s premier blues and wildlife artists, doing paintings of some of the greatest blues artists, such as B. B. King, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, Mississippi John Hurt and T-bone Walker to name a few, and I love painting the Delta wildlife such as wood ducks, mallards, hunting dogs and landscapes. I am a proud member of the Oxford Artists Guild and regularly do shows in various towns and venues. I hope to continue painting for the rest of my life.
