After spending two decades in the corporate and non-profit worlds, I decided to pursue art as my profession. (And make my parents proud by utilizing my art degree). Now #ipaintforaliving.
A little bit about my paintings and processes:
The overall history of each subject I paint is of utmost importance to me. Each piece draws me in and compels me to study the backstory that lead up to the moment I’m recreating.
Utilizing reclaimed wood as my canvas (which has its own history) and acrylic paint as my base, I apply paint in individual layers to keep the colors pure, much like is done in screen printing. In addition to acrylic I like to introduce various, oftentimes multiple, mediums to create depth and texture. (oil paint, spray paint, varnish, enamel, oil stick, oil pencil, oil marker, printmaking ink, gouache, colored pencil, oil pastel, crayon, marker, and anything else available are all fair game).
Like me, my paintings are often of Mississippi natives. Its people, places and things are rich in history, and I strive to capture the story each has to tell.
