My work reflects an interest in abstract expressionism. My creative responses to the world around me are about the experience of making. Somewhat like the great Abex painters before me, the outcome is less important to me than the experience. I have a master’s degree in art education and a PhD from William Carey University. I teach art appreciation and endeavor to encourage young artists throughout Mississippi. As former exhibit curator for the Sarah Ellen Gillespie Museum of Art, I was able to study over 600 works from 20th century Mississippi artists. That tenure gave me a unique insight into 100 years of Mississippi art. I currently work under the Ellsworth Grant as Director for Carey About Art, the community arts outreach program at William Carey University. I am also honored to be the curator for Oddfellows Gallery, one of the regions best white-box art galleries. Mississippi’s interest and enthusiasm in creativity and the arts can best be seen on any exhibit opening night or throughout the week during gallery hours. Sharing art and creativity with people of all ages is the best job any artist could possible have.
