My approach to art is twofold. On one hand I am a realist;on the other an abstractionist. My designs are sketchy and the texture is often transparent. As a realist working from nature with the subject of still lifes, landscapes, and portraits are my favorites. Many of my abstractions are based on personal experiences with music and especially the shapes of different types of drums I played using a non-representational approach. My favorite media are pencil, charcoal, acrylic and oil. Several of my exhibits have been in Mississippi including The McComas Hall Gallery at Mississippi State University, Johnston Gallery at Mississippi Valley State University, Amory Public Library, Starkville Public Library, Tupelo City Hall, the Three Generations Home in Starkville, and the Communigraphics Design Conference in Memphis. Festivals I have participated in include the Cotton District Arts Festival in Starkville, Market Street Festival in Columbus, River To the Rails Art Fair in Greenwood and the Indian Summer Festival in Okolona among others. I conduct workshops with children and adults of all ages as a member of the Starkville Arts Council. Originally from Greenville, I attended Mississippi Valley State University and completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from Mississippi State University in Starkville, where I live and work.
