As a silversmith, Sandy Maggio designs and fabricates jewelry and holloware from precious metals and gemstones. In her studio she uses raw materials such as silver and gold grains and sheet to create each individual piece. Maggio hand makes every component, from hammering and forging the metals to soldering the bezels and setting the stones. She hand carves her own wax designs and makes molds from vintage medals and then recasts the object in silver or gold to incorporate into a piece. For her holloware bowls, cups and other vessesl she uses different techniques, such as hand raising and fold-forming, to make every item one of a kind. Sandy also creates fine metal sculpture using all the aforementioned techniques Maggio’s award winning work has sold worldwide and has hung in the Mississippi Museum of Art, The George Ohr Museum of Art, as well as several stores and galleries. Sandy Maggio and business partner Ann Madden, are resident artists and owners of Smith & Lens Gallery located in Bay Saint Louis, MS.
