“An authentic life is not defined by the big events we experience, but by small everyday moments. We are most true to ourselves in moments when we block out distractions to fully engage with our loved ones, in contemplative moments when we reflect and know better our true selves, in the still times when we talk to God and listen for His answers. My goal as an artist is to depict the emotions we all experience in these special times. - Susan Schove Phillips, Artist
Susan Schove Phillips’ gestural figures in colored inks, acrylics and watercolors depict with emotion both solitary, spiritual moments and more light-hearted moments shared by children and adults. Her expressionist style paintings utilize brilliant colors, combining inks and acrylics for an almost three-dimensional effect.
Winner of several awards, including first place for her watercolor series, “The Tempest Sprites” in the “Wherefore Art Thou?” competition sponsored by the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and the University of Mississippi, Susan is a member of the Oxford Artists Guild, the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and the Mississippi Plein Air Painters.
Susan’s paintings belong to local collections as well as to art collectors in California, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama and Missouri. Susan’s artwork is available in the ArtOxford and Oxford Artists Guild galleries at Sugar Magnolia, Oxford and by contacting the artist directly.
