I am a 2006 graduate of the College of Architecture, Art, and Design at Mississippi State University, where I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Painting and Drawing. After graduation, I taught in various after school art programs and worked in a coffee shop, as any post-grad art kid does, while earning my teaching certification through the University of Mississippi. In 2008, I became a full time art instructor at a small, Christian school in Southaven, MS, where I taught 5th, 6th, and 9th-12th grade art for 3 years before leaving my position to stay at home with my newborn daughter. The rigorous post-grad training, working, and studying was fulfilling but had taken away my creative desires and fulfillment. Spending time with my daughter reignited my passion for creating art, and for the first time since graduating from college, I picked up my camera and paintbrushes and started creating art again in the spring of 2013. My first piece was a small watercolor portrait of my daughter. My daughter became my muse, and after receiving positive feedback from peers, colleagues, friends, and family, I started a small business, The Kibnit Creative, and began painting custom watercolor portraits for people all over the country. Due to the custom nature of my work as well as the limitations of being a full time stay at home mom to a toddler as well as my being an expectant mother, I do not currently show my pieces. However, it is my hope that I will be in the position to do so at a later time. My undergraduate thesis focused on a body of mixed media, nonrepresentational work exploring how one chooses to express the visceral urges and inherent aesthetic that each of us has, so my watercolor endeavors have been quite a departure from my past work, both in meaning and representation. I plan to continue to expand upon my knowledge of and explore representational, nonrepresentational, and abstract subject matter as well as a variety of media, but representational watercolor is my preference these days.
